ABOUT
In Malaysia and regionally, there is a growing demand for chiropractic services as patients become more aware and receptive to holistic and integrated healthcare solutions. If you want to fully understand the human body, its mechanisms and the musculoskeletal system, then chiropractic could be the right career choice for you.
Chiropractic Degree
Chiropractic is a drugless, hands-on healing science that focuses on balancing the nervous system and aligning the human spine. To use an analogy: just as we service our cars to prevent them from breaking down, it is also important to service our bodies to maintain our health.
Chiropractors commonly treat musculoskeletal symptoms such as back and neck pain, headaches, pain in the arms or legs and many other conditions. Common medical tests such as clinical examination, x-rays, and blood tests are conducted to determine the most appropriate care for each patient.
At IMU, students are given all the tools to become a successful chiropractor. The IMU Chiropractic degree programme emphasizes business management skills and hands-on chiropractic techniques where students work with patients in a supervised clinic that mirrors the experience needed to run a successful practice.
IMU is the only university to offer a Chiropractic Degree programme in Malaysia as well as in all of Southeast Asia. Graduates are eligible to practise in Australia and many other developed countries as the programme is accredited with conditions by the prestigious Council on Chiropractic Education Australasia (CCEA).
The Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Chiropractic programme at IMU is accredited with conditions by the prestigious Council on Chiropractic Education Australasia (CCEA). With this accreditation, graduates with the IMU chiropractic degree would be eligible to practise in Australia and other countries (provided they meet certain local requirements ie English language proficiency, competency examinations, visa and work permits, etc).

The chiropractic programme in IMU have provided me the knowledge and shaped me into being a competent chiropractor. I am very grateful to be able to pursue and complete my chiropractic education locally. The programme is accredited by the CCEA board and it gave me the foundation to pass my CCEA board exam and it was also where I got my radiology basics which prepared me for my NZCC diagnostic imaging residency exam. I am also very thankful to be accepted and loved by the NZCC family where I was able to continue my chiropractic journey with my further studies.

During my time studying chiropractic at IMU, I had also attended free spinal screening event held throughout my student life. The importance of this screening event is to increase the awareness of musculoskeletal health and to introduce chiropractic care to the society. In addition, it also helped to sharpen my communication and analytical skills. In my opinion, it was really a great experience as it is something that we can't obtain it through academically and through these activities, I have found my interest in chiropractic.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose the IMU Chiropractic Programme?
The IMU Chiropractic Programme is crafted to equip students with the necessary skills to excel as Chiropractors on a global scale, as outlined by the Councils on Chiropractic Education International. Graduates will have a comprehensive understanding of diagnosing and treating various human conditions, with a strong focus on the musculoskeletal system, particularly the spine. Chiropractic is an established healthcare profession, licensed in more than 30 countries and supported by over 30 Chiropractic schools worldwide. Chiropractors have a diverse range of career opportunities, including private or group practice, as well as employment in private, educational, or (in certain countries) governmental settings. Additionally, many Chiropractors pursue specialised areas within the field, such as orthopedics, neurology, nutrition, diagnostic imaging, and sports Chiropractic.
What is the structure of the programme?
The curriculum of the programme spans five years, covering both academic and clinical training. Chiropractic students undergo similar pre-university courses as other healthcare professionals such as foundation, A-level, etc. To provide practical experience, much of the coursework is taught in simulated clinical settings, which starts from the early stages of the programme.
What are the teaching-learning approaches used?
The Chiropractic curriculum involves a diverse range of teaching methods, including lecture, discussion, laboratory work, self-directed study, and real clinical settings. Since Chiropractic is a hands-on profession, students are trained to perceive the structures of the human body, particularly the spine (comprising the neck, middle and lower back, and pelvis) by touch. As the programme progresses, students engage in increasingly advanced hands-on activities that involve analysing and treating patients using techniques commonly used in Chiropractic clinical practice. During the final stages of the programme, students manage real patients in a supervised Chiropractic Centre. This includes diagnosing patients, devising a treatment plan, ordering and interpreting radiology, and laboratory tests (when necessary), referring patients to other healthcare professionals when appropriate, and performing all aspects of spinal adjustment and adjunctive treatment.
Who are the teaching staff?
IMU has brought together a group of highly regarded and clinically experienced Chiropractors from around the world to provide an exceptional educational experience in Chiropractic. Along with their extensive clinical practice, these Chiropractors have conducted research, published papers in peer-reviewed journals, presented at multidisciplinary conferences, and authored textbooks. IMU’s basic science faculty has been teaching medical physicians, dentists, and pharmacists for over 15 years, consistently upholding a high standard of quality.
What are the semester contents?

Who will award the degree?
IMU awards the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Chiropractic degree to its graduates. Students who transfer to the partner university will receive the respective degree from that institution.
