IMU President Hands Over Ultrasound Scan Machine to Kluang Hospital

7 April 15 – International Medical University (IMU) President, YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Abu Bakar Suleiman, visited Kluang Hospital and IMU Kluang campus for the official handing-over ceremony of an ultrasound scan machine from IMU to Hospital Kluang. A simple handing-over ceremony attended by Pengarah Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Kluang, Dr Azizah, Timbalan Pegarah Dr Azura, all senior heads of department, senior administrative staff, nursing staff and paramedics, Dean School of Medicine IMU, Associate Dean, Clinical School IMU, Coordinator of Batu Pahat and Kluang campus, other faculty members and student representatives from Semesters 5 and 10, was held at a Seminar Room.

YBhg Prof Dato’ Dr ST Kew, IMU’s Dean, School of Medicine in her speech highlighted the journey of IMU from 2004 to 2013 from the old hospital in Kluang to the new hospital and the excellent help provided by the doctors and staff of Kluang hospital in training IMU’s Semesters 5 and 10 students over the years. She expressed hope that the availability of the ultrasound scan machine in the Emergency Department will help to enhance the medical services provided by the Emergency Department.

A tour of the hospital was later undertaken by the President, accompanied by the Hospital Pengarah and her team and the IMU faculty. The President took the time to chat with the doctors and staff in the wards and met with several IMU students going around their routine. IMU President ended his visit to Kluang by touring the Kluang campus. He was pleased that the campus is well organised. In the campus he was greeted by his former colleague, Dr Ng Kian Seng, who is currently a part time lecturer and great supporter of IMU. The President thanked him for his enthusiasm and support for IMU and discussed plans for further projects to enhance the training of IMU medical students. DSC_2646 Earlier in the day, as early as 8 am, IMU and the Emergency Department organised a session of ultrasound hands-on scans of the pelvis and abdomen, conducted by A/Prof Nazimah and A/Prof Rohaizan. The event was very well organised with Dr Hussein arranging for patients’ participation and helping to source for an extra ultrasound scan machine for the hands-on session. The session was very well received by the medical officers. Around 20 medical officers from the Emergency Department, Surgical and Obstetrics and Gynaecology departments participated in the session.
