Introducing the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE)
Preparatory Course at IMU

The International Medical University (IMU) is proud to announce the offering of the USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examinations) Preparatory Course. This will not only further benchmark IMU medical course globally but provides a pathway for our graduates to train and work in the United States.

The Preparatory Course is blended into our IMU medical curriculum across Semesters 1 to 10. All current and future intake Medical students won’t be paying additional fees for the USMLE preparatory course. USMLE (All steps) preparatory course for IMU medical students and graduates is launched in partnership with AMBOSS GmBH. AMBOSS is a global company based in Berlin, Germany promoting quality education and training for health professionals.

The preparatory course provides USMLE learning materials which include comprehensive breadth of content of all pre-clinically and clinically-relevant subjects, covering all basic science and clinical subjects tested by the following exams: USMLE Step 1, USMLE Step 2 CK & CS, NBME Subject Board (Shelf) Exams. Also included are learning materials in online library format, embedded multimedia resources, recent updates, question bank, performance analysis and tracking personal progress etc.

These comprehensive materials are very useful for our students in preparing for the USMLE Steps.

Passing the USMLE Steps allows students to be eligible for US residency options and opens up additional pathways to obtain post-graduate qualifications. The USMLE is one of the tougher exams to pass and the challenge is to attain good scores to get a residency of choice.

“We are proud to partner with IMU,” says Manuel Höller-Fam, Regional Manager for the Asia-Pacific Region at AMBOSS. “This is our first institutional partnership in Malaysia and we are very pleased to be working with a university so committed to taking a holistic approach to medical education. Our new partnership will allow faculty to integrate our digital study and teaching resources into the curriculum for students at every level of their medical studies. We are confident that having access to AMBOSS from day one will help students develop a much deeper understanding of medical concepts and, ultimately, to become better doctors in the long term.”

AMBOSS is a breakthrough digital platform that has revolutionized the way medical professionals acquire their knowledge. Founded in 2010, the company’s team today consists of more than 400 professionals in the fields of medicine, didactics, digital learning, medical illustration, and software engineering.

Students use the interactive library and question bank for general study and exam preparation, while doctors rely on AMBOSS for evidence-based recommendations to guide their clinical decisions. The platform has contributed significantly to improving the everyday lives of current and prospective physicians. More than 500,000 doctors and students already rely on AMBOSS during their studies and on the ward — a number that is growing daily.

What is USMLE?

The United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) is a three-step examination for medical licensure in the United States and is sponsored by the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) and the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME).

The USMLE assesses a physician’s ability to apply knowledge, concepts, and principles, and to demonstrate fundamental patient-centered skills, that are important in health and disease and that constitute the basis of safe and effective patient care. Each of the three Steps of the USMLE complements the others; no Step can stand alone in the assessment of readiness for medical licensure.
