The International Medical University (IMU) is proud to announce the offering of the USMLE Step 1 (United States Medical Licensing Examinations) Preparatory Course. This will not only further benchmark the IMU medical course globally but provides a pathway for our graduates to train and work in the United States.
The Preparatory Course is blended into our IMU medical curriculum across Semesters 1 to 5 (August 2017 Intake onwards). Medical students joining from the August 2017 Intake won’t be paying additional fees for the USMLE Step 1 preparatory course. This initiative will also be available for our current students (Before the August 2017 Intake) and alumni at a discounted price. USMLE Step 1 preparatory course for IMU medical students and graduates is launched in partnership with Becker Professional Education. Becker is a US-based company promoting quality education and training for health professionals.
The programme provides USMLE Step 1 preparatory materials which include recorded USMLE review lectures, ebooks, review books, question bank, live virtual interactive sessions and other learning materials. Such comprehensive materials are very useful for our students in preparing for the USMLE Steps.
Passing the USMLE Steps allows students to be eligible for US residency options and opens up additional pathways to obtain post-graduate qualifications. The USMLE is one of the tougher exams to pass and the challenge is to attain good scores to get a residency of choice.
The United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) is a three-step examination for medical licensure in the United States and is sponsored by the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) and the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME).
The USMLE assesses a physician’s ability to apply knowledge, concepts, and principles, and to demonstrate fundamental patient-centered skills, that are important in health and disease and that constitute the basis of safe and effective patient care. Each of the three Steps of the USMLE complements the others; no Step can stand alone in the assessment of readiness for medical licensure.
Frequently updated content reflecting changes in the test plan or trends on the exam. Becker’s use of proprietary technology, such as GuideMD (interactive ebooks) with native apps for iOS and Android along with print on demand features provides increased flexibility to push these updates to students' resources.
Becker’s faculty work together to coordinate presentation so that early subjects consciously lay foundation for later subjects. This yields an integrated presentation, not a parade of separate voices lacking harmony. Dr Lionel Raymon's integrated cases as a capstone offers a truly one-of-a-kind perspective of working through basic science content with cases developed uniquely through individual student participation.
Becker’s faculty offer significant expertise relative to the exam and study skills students need for USMLE success. Many of their faculty are very experienced in writing content in USMLE. These faculty include Dr Lionel Raymon, Dr Steven Daugherty, Dr Mary Ruebush, Dr Jack Wilson and others for Step 1 while Dr Charles Faselis, Dr Steven Daugherty and others are for Step 2 CK.
