Update: The hospital construction was completed in June 2022. Following the acquisition of the IMU Group by a consortium which comprises of TPG’s The Rise Funds, Hong Leong Group and the Employee’s Provident Fund, the hospital was sold to Columbia Asia Group as of 1 June 2023.
Kuala Lumpur, 14 December 2017 – IMU Healthcare (IMUH) based at Bukit Jalil, will commence work on its first hospital after a ‘ground breaking’ ceremony today officiated by the Minister of Health Malaysia YB Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam. Since 2010, IMU Healthcare has been providing the residents of Bukit Jalil and its surrounding neighbourhoods with modern, integrated healthcare that combines the disciplines of allopathic medicine alongside those of complementary medicine. The new IMU Hospital will enhance the existing healthcare services to the community with new patient-centric inpatient and surgical facilities. Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam says the country’s healthcare system continues to improve and advance and is now one of the best in Southeast Asia. “Once this new hospital is open, it will set new standards in patient care that will be the envy of the region,” he said.
IMU Healthcare is the healthcare arm of the International Medical University (IMU), Malaysia’s first and most established private medical and health sciences university founded in 1992.
The new hospital will provide the latest in international standards and research incorporated with individualised care to provide a superior quality of outcome for patients. An individualised patient-centric approach ensures patients will be managed by a primary care provider and supported by a multi-disciplinary team of physicians for a seamless transition of care, and better outcomes.
According to IMU’s Chief Executive Officer and Vice-Chancellor, Prof Abdul Aziz Baba, “In most hospitals, practitioners work independently and are financially rewarded for the number of patients they are able to get through in a day. At IMU, the patient is the centre of everything we do – from our processes and procedures to the way we recruit our specialists and other staff, from the integrated support systems we have in place for our patients and the holistic care we can provide them.” 
“Patients will have access to the latest equipment and facilities and be treated by some of the country’s best medical practitioners, by virtue of being part of a university,” said Prof Aziz.
IMU Hospital will be built on the land adjacent to the University and is targeted to be operational in 2021. Phase 1 will open up 96 inpatient beds with 3 operating theatres, an Emergency Room, 22 Specialist Clinics and 2 Wellness Clinics. The hospital is designed to adopt concepts that allow some of its facilities to quickly evolve to meet the growing needs of the community, and will expand gradually to a 312-bed hospital.
