On 20 October 2018, Emergency Medicine Society (EMS) together with IMU CC Sports Club had successfully organised the first Futsal Tournament IMU-ED (Emergency Department) MOH (Ministry Of Health) at Sports Planet Senawang, Negeri Sembilan (NS). Approximately about 100 Futsal players, consisting of a total of 13 teams; 5 teams from IMU and 8 teams form MOH Hospital namely; Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar, Hospital Port Dickson, Hospital Tampin and Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Najihah Kuala Pilah participated in this event.
This event was attended by IMU’s Associate Dean, Clinical Affairs, Prof Nazimah Idris, Dr Suhaimi Mahmud (Consultant Emergency Physician and HOD of ED, Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar Seremban, NS), Dr Rosdara Masayuni (EMS Advisor/ IMU Emergency Medicine Lecturer), Dr Muhammad Fadzhil (Assistant HOD ED Hospital Tampin), Puan Eza Norjuana (Manager IMU Clinical Campus Seremban) and Puan Nur Hanisah (IMU Student Services). Project Leader for this programme was Muhammad Naim, EMS representative. The main objectives of this event is to strengthen the network and social interactions between IMU students and ED hospital staff. This event provides a platform for students to develop virtues of self-confidence and self-esteem through sports competitions and to recognise individual sports talent. It is also to enrich leadership qualities and foster fine values of cooperation, teamwork, tolerance, trust and responsibility through healthy competitions. This is indeed a precious chance to detour from the students’ heavy academic workload and refresh their mind in a relaxing in a healthy competitive environment. Opening speech of this event was given by Prof Nazimah and Dr Suhaimi. The highlight during Opening ceremony was a ‘kick-off’ by the VIPs invited.
In this event, as a safety measure, medical personnel on standby were two assistant medical officers and an ambulance; fully equipped with AED – was at site to provide First Aid and initial treatment for injured players. There are few injuries during the tournament mostly were soft tissue injuries and treatment at site are given accordingly. The tournament went smoothly and finished according to the allocated time and schedule. It was a great achievement and a result from the great teamwork by EMS and IMU CC Sports Club committee members who were committed in executing their task. Full co-operation from the participants was portrayed as well throughout this event.
Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar team was crowned champion for the Male category, and our own IMU team was crowned champion for the Female category. For the prize giving ceremony, prizes were given by Dr Rosdara Masayuni, Puan Eza Norjuana and Puan Nur Hanisah. Everyone enjoyed themselves participating in this event and they will be looking forward for this highly anticipated annual Futsal IMU-ED MOH tournament.
