Dr VasudevaRao Avupati, a Lecturer from the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department in the School of Pharmacy at IMU, received 3rd prize for the “Best Poster Award” at the International Conference on Drug Discovery and Translational Medicine 2018 (ICDDTM ‘18), Putrajaya, Malaysia for his research poster titled “Design, Synthesis, In vitro Biological Evaluation, and Molecular Docking Studies of a Series of p-Toluene Sulfonylurea-Based Hybrids as a New Class of α-Glucosidase Inhibitors”. The poster was on antidiabetic drug discovery and development which was authored by Vasudeva Rao Avupati, Yap Wei Sheng, Diong Qizhi Cyrus, Wong Zheng Feng, and Mallikarjuna Rao Pichika. In this award-winning IMU research project, a series of novel p-toluene sulfonylurea-based hybrids were discovered as a new class of α-glucosidase inhibitors. During the ICDDTM ’18, researchers from Malaysia and from overseas highlighted research results and current trends which focused on Drug Discovery and Translational Medicine. Dr Vasu was successful in the very competitive poster sessions of over 109 posters covering major therapeutic areas of drug discovery research which includes cancer, anti-inflammatory diseases, infectious diseases, mental health, metabolic diseases, and neurodegenerative diseases respectively.
