15 Feb 2024

Wong Yi Kai, a chiropractic alumnus of the International Medical University (IMU), has been appointed to the World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC) Board of Directors, representing Asia. This position not only highlights Yi Kai’s significant contributions to the chiropractic profession both within Malaysia and internationally but also marks a moment of transition and gratitude towards his predecessor.

Yi Kai steps into a role previously held by Kei Takeyachi, a respected figure in the chiropractic community. Takeyachi, an elected Board representative for the WFC’s Asian region, has contributed immensely to the field. Takeyachi’s legacy is a testament to the family’s deep-rooted commitment to chiropractic care. Yi Kai expressed his gratitude, stating, “I am deeply honored to follow in the footsteps of Kei Takeyachi. His dedication and leadership have significantly advanced our profession in Asia.”

Reflecting on his appointment, Yi Kai shared, “Representing Asia on the WFC Board of Directors underscores our collective efforts to enhance the accessibility and quality of chiropractic care, advocating for its integration into mainstream healthcare.”

Despite significant global progress, the regulation of the chiropractic profession in Asia remains limited. Yi Kai emphasized the vast potential for chiropractic in Asia and the need for continued advocacy and establishment of professional standards across the region.

Yi Kai’s commitment to promoting the holistic benefits of chiropractic care, emphasizing its role in health maintenance and wellness beyond mere pain management, is at the core of his vision. “Chiropractic care is about enhancing overall well-being, not just treating pain. It’s about helping individuals live their lives to the fullest, pain-free and with optimal health,” Yi Kai remarked.

Yi Kai’s appointment, alongside the focus on educational advancements through the WFC conference, underscores a period of significant growth and opportunity for chiropractic in Asia. It reflects a shared ambition to integrate chiropractic services more fully into the healthcare landscape, ensuring wider access to this essential form of care for populations across the region.

Yi Kai’s appointment to the World Federation of Chiropractic Board marks a significant stride towards advancing chiropractic care in Asia. His vision for accessible, quality care and the role of chiropractic in holistic health is a guiding light for the profession.

As we look forward to the WFC Education Conference in Malaysia, focusing on “Technology and Innovation,” there’s a palpable sense of anticipation for the future of chiropractic education and practice.

Yi Kai’s leadership embodies the collective ambition to elevate chiropractic care, promising a healthier, more vibrant future for communities across Asia and beyond. This milestone reflects not just professional growth but a step forward in integrating chiropractic care into mainstream healthcare, benefiting people across the region.

The World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC), a global not-for-profit organisation and non-State actor of the World Health Organization, plays a crucial role in the advancement of chiropractic care worldwide. With a membership spanning over 90 countries, the WFC commits to promoting spinal health and well-being and ensuring evidence-based, people-centered chiropractic services globally. Supported by member dues, corporate partnerships, and sponsorships, it aims to uphold the profession’s standards in research, education, and practice.

The WFC’s strategic vision is to make chiropractic care accessible to all, furthering the mission to enable populations to thrive. Yi Kai’s appointment aligns with these goals, spotlighting the role of Malaysian professionals in shaping the future of chiropractic care both locally and internationally.

The upcoming WFC Education Conference in Malaysia, themed “Technology and Innovation: Shaping the Future of Chiropractic Education”, marks a significant milestone. This conference aims to explore the intersection of technology and innovation in shaping the future of chiropractic education, bringing together educators, practitioners, researchers, policymakers, and industry experts. Yi Kai highlighted the importance of this event, “The WFC Education Conference is a cornerstone for those interested in the transformative power of chiropractic and the role of innovation in advancing our practice.”
