Dr Chan See Yun: Innovating Acupuncture in Maternal Care

12 Jul 2024

Dr Chan See Yun, an esteemed alumna of IMU’s MSc in Acupuncture programme, is at the forefront of innovative acupuncture techniques in maternal care. Currently based in Ipoh, Dr Chan is a skilled anesthesiologist, specialising in obstetric anesthesiology, who uniquely integrates her medical expertise with her qualifications in acupuncture to provide holistic care for mothers during and post-delivery.

Dr Chan’s approach combines the best of Western medicine and traditional acupuncture, aiming to reduce dependency on pharmaceutical drugs for post-delivery complications such as pain, headache, nausea vomiting. This method not only alleviates post-delivery complications but also supports a more natural and balanced birthing experience.

Despite some resistance from peers who are skeptical of combining these two branches of healthcare, Dr Chan remains optimistic and dedicated to her pioneering work.

Her commitment to this integrative approach highlights the potential of blending modern and traditional medical practices to improve patient outcomes. Dr Chan’s advocacy for acupuncture as a complement to anesthesiology showcases her forward-thinking mindset and dedication to advancing maternal health.

Dr Chan See Yun’s contributions exemplify the spirit of innovation and excellence that IMU University fosters. As she continues to champion this holistic method, she serves as an inspiring figure in the medical community, demonstrating the profound benefits of interdisciplinary knowledge and compassionate care.
