In a dynamic collaboration aimed at enriching student learning experiences, IMU University partnered with UCSI University to host the “Teaching and Assessing the Affective Domain Workshop” on 19 April 2024, at the UCSI University campus.
This innovative workshop delved into the nuances of teaching, learning, and assessing people (soft) skills crucial for holistic student development. Participants were immersed in hands-on activities, particularly focusing on the effective use of role-play as a tool to teach and evaluate stress and anger management skills among students.
The workshop featured a distinguished lineup of speakers and facilitators from IMU University. A/Prof Dr. Pathiyil Ravi Shankar from the Centre for Education delivered a talk on “The Affective Domain: Challenges in Teaching, Learning and Assessment” and A/Prof Dr. Chye Soi Moi from the School of Health Sciences presented on “Stress/Anger Management Assessment by Role Play”. Notably, the workshop included participation from nine faculty of UCSI University, highlighting a shared commitment to enhancing teaching practices and improving student outcomes.
Additionally, the workshop featured a demonstration session led by Dr Koh Rhun Yian and Dr Shamala Salvamani from the School of Health Sciences, along with nine IMU University Biomedical Science students from the BM1/23 cohort: Agnes Toh Tze Han, Fidelis Chai Xin Er, Kum Yung Yuen, Lim Ann Chee, Nursajjidah Balqis binti Mohammad Tarmizi, Willem Tan B Jay, Yap Jia Ee, Yasheni Muniandy, and Yashwini Buvaneswaran. This session showcased a real case study on using role play to assess stress and anger management, exemplifying the commitment to improving assessment methods for people skills.
This collaborative initiative between IMU University and UCSI University underscores the ongoing commitment to holistic education and the continual advancement of teaching practices to better prepare students for the challenges of tomorrow.
