Empowering Future Heroes with First Aid and Basic Life Support Training

30 Aug 2024

We are thrilled to share the success of the First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) Training : Every Life Matters conducted at Sri KDU International School on 4 May, spearheaded by Dr Shilpa Murthy and her esteemed colleagues from the Clinical Skills Department- Dr JagMohini Kaur, Dr Ranila, Dr Jia Li, Dr Hazlina and Dr Sunila from  the School of Medicine (SOM).

The training session brought together teachers, staff, and parents, emphasizing the importance of equipping individuals with life-saving skills in emergency situations. The session commenced with an introduction followed by a comprehensive First Aid module, addressing common school accidents such as drowning, falls, fractures, cuts, burns, nose bleeds, seizures, allergies and many other conditions.

Hands-on learning was a key component of the session, with participants actively engaging in demonstrations and practice sessions on choking, CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), and usage of the AED (Automated External Defibrillator). Real-life scenarios were presented to the groups, allowing participants to apply their newly acquired knowledge and skills effectively.

The participants were then assessed with pre and post tests followed by a practical assessment.

There was a brief session sharing information about IMU‘s new programmes on Foundation in Arts which opens for different career openings in psychology, digital health and  Bachelor’s in Business Administration. Parents expressed keen interest in these offerings, emphasizing the value of such educational opportunities.

The ICL team and their instrumental support in organising and facilitating the event, ensures the smooth execution of this session. The overwhelmingly positive feedback received from all participants speaks volumes about the impact and effectiveness of the session.

In conclusion, the BLS training session at Sri KDU International School was not only informative and educational but also an enjoyable and enriching experience for all involved. This happens because the different teams – ICL, Marketing, CSD worked very closely to ensure the participants’ satisfaction and quality service.

The team looks forward to continuing efforts in promoting health and safety within our community through similar initiatives in the future.
