Chariofare 2024: Running for a Cause and Bringing Fun to All

26 Sep 2024

On 7 September 2024, the much-anticipated IMU Chariofare 2024 charity run, with the powerful theme of “Health for All,” took place, bringing together runners, volunteers, and supporters for a day of fitness, philanthropy, and fun.

This year’s event, featuring more than 950 runners, was not just about pounding the pavement, but also about making a significant impact on the community with the proceeds benefitting four outstanding beneficiaries.

Beneficiaries

Persatuan OKU Sentral
Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) at Lembah Pantai and Raya Permai, and
Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO)

Each of the beneficiaries plays a critical role in society:

Persatuan OKU Sentral:

A dedicated organisation advocating for the rights and welfare of people with disabilities in Malaysia.

PPR at Lembah Pantai and Raya Permai:

A community housing initiative working to improve the lives of underprivileged families.

Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO):

Providing life-saving support and services to women and children facing domestic violence.

By joining forces with these organisations, Chariofare 2024 contributed to ongoing programmes that empower and uplift these groups.

Chariofare 2024 saw runners of all ages and abilities come together to participate in various categories, ranging from the 3km fun run to the 5km and 10km races. It was heartening to see participants running not only for their personal goals but also to support meaningful causes.

A warm-up session was led by IMU staff and students, and the race was flagged off with a welcoming horn by Prof Khoo Suan Phaik, Dean for Community Engagement and Sustainability who is also the Advisor for IMU Chariofare.

In addition to the charity run, attendees were treated to a fun-filled carnival featuring 50 booths, a Zumba session by Fit and Fab Studio, and student-led performances that catered to all ages and interests.  Other than the Run and over 50 booths of food and fun, the carnival included the expertise contributed by the various disciplines at IMU University.

Other Chariofare Activities

Free HPV Vaccination:

In a commendable health initiative, free HPV vaccines were offered to eligible participants. This initiative aimed to raise awareness about cervical cancer prevention and promote public health.

Chiropractor Fitness Challenge:

A fitness challenge conducted by professional chiropractors attracted fitness enthusiasts eager to test their strength, agility, and endurance. Participants walked away not only with a sense of accomplishment but also with valuable insights into their physical health.

Food & Activities:

Families and friends enjoyed a wide array of food stalls offering local and international delights. Meanwhile, the activities area provided fun games, making it a perfect blend of entertainment and relaxation.

Lucky Draw:

The excitement didn’t stop with the run and carnival games. Participants had the chance to win incredible prizes through a lucky draw, adding an extra layer of thrill to the event.

Chariofare 2024 was more than just a race—it was a testament to the power of community and compassion. Through this event, significant funds were raised to support Persatuan OKU Sentral, PPR at Lembah Pantai and Raya Permai, and the Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO) in their ongoing missions. The day also succeeded in promoting health and wellness, with activities that encouraged participants to stay active, take care of their health, and most importantly, give back to those in need.

With such a vibrant and impactful event, Chariofare 2024 not only achieved its charitable goals but also fostered a spirit of unity and joy. We look forward to seeing what’s in store for next year’s event as the Chariofare legacy of giving continues.
