The School of Medicine (SOM), School of Pharmacy (SOP), Centre for Complementary & Alternative Medicine (CCAM) and the Institute for Research, Development and Innovation (IRDI) will be organising the International Undergraduate Medical Research Conference 2022 (IUMRC22) on 8 and 9 November 2022.
IUMRC22 provides an opportunity for undergraduates to present what they have learned through their research experiences to a larger audience. The 2-day Conference also provides a forum for students, faculty, and the community to discuss cutting edge research topics and to examine the connection between research and education. The Conference includes presentations by students from all academic disciplines and invited guests. This year's Conference will be hosted in hybrid mode (both physically at campus and virtually).
All undergraduates involved in biomedical and medical research are encouraged to apply. Those who are yet to be involved in research will have great experience and exposure by attending the Conference.
The Conference includes projects from all disciplines and encourages interdisciplinary discourse, allowing students to learn from each other about a broad range of exciting research topics.
Students can include their presentations on resumes and graduate school applications.
Research presentations fall under four (4) themes.
Discovery Science
Discovery Science involves analysis of large volumes of experimental data with the goal of finding new patterns or correlations, leading to hypothesis formation and other scientific methodologies. It focuses on the mechanisms that underlie fundamental processes or diseases such as cell growth, the transformation of normal cells to cancer cells, gene function and basic and pathophysiology.
Drug Discovery and Development
Drug Discovery and Development theme covers a continuum of research and development activities from discovery and characterisation of bioactive molecules to clinical trials.
Clinical and Translational Research
Clinical and Translational Research theme focuses on the process of applying discoveries generated during research in the laboratory, and in preclinical studies, to the development of trials and studies in humans. It also covers research aimed at enhancing the adoption of best practices in the community and heath systems.
Environmental, Nutrition and Population Health
Environmental, Nutrition and Population Health theme focuses on the investigation and analysis of factors that influence the health status of population groups or whole population, as well as the testing and evaluation of policies and interventions to improve population health outcomes.
Students can include their presentations on resumes and graduate school applications.
