17 May 2014 – The Asian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA) IMU organised the first Pathology Summit (NAPS) at the University’s campus in Bukit Jalil. This event was entirely organised by our IMU students with advice from Prof Hematram Yadav as AMSA-Advisor and Dr Arun Kumar as event advisor. Participating universities to this summit were IMU, Allianze University College of Medical Sciences (AUCMS), University Putra Malaysia (UPM), Newcastle University, UTAR and Perdana University, targeting the minds of future healthcare professionals.
This day-long event consisted of three main activities – Student Workshops, Anatomy-Pathology Image Quiz and Clinical Case Presentation. The Student Workshops were held simultaneously, facilitated by the lecturers of IMU’s Anatomy and Pathology faculty members, Dr Khin Ma Ma, Dr Htar Htar Aung, Dr Sunil PV, Dr Afshan Sumera, Dr Vasudeva Murthy, Ms Anupa, Dr Vijay Paul Samuel. Topics for these workshops were Embryogenesis, Understanding Complete Blood Count and Skeletal Remains Examination. The Image Quiz was divided into Preliminary and Final Rounds conducted by event Advisor, Dr Arun Kumar Basavaraj. The quiz participants from the various universities showed remarkable enthusiasm and passion. Clinical Case Presentations were conducted in teams of three, whereby each team was given a clinical case one week prior to the event and was required to present on the given case. All teams demonstrated high levels of knowledge and understanding, and were moderated by a few faculty members. All winners were awarded with prizes. This event proved to be a successful meeting ground for first and second year medical students nationwide to interact, discuss intriguing cases and learn from each other, providing them a wholesome educational experience in their road to becoming future doctors.
