21 August 2021 – IMU’s School of Medicine is happy to inform that an urgent Basic Life Support (BLS) Recertification event was organised at short notice for trainees of the Academy of Family Physicians of Malaysia (AFPM) who were in urgent need of BLS recertification. This gesture of goodwill on the part of IMU was facilitated by A/Prof Chandramani Thuraisingham, Head of IMU’s Family Medicine Department who is also President of the Academy.
The organising committee ensured that all participants adhered to the SoP, maintaining social distancing, hand hygiene, and the use of full PPE throughout the event. The BLS re-certification is a one-day event held at the Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre (CSSC), IMU, a centre equipped with experienced trainers and proper equipment.
It was conducted by highly experienced speakers and facilitators from CSSC team, led by Malini Krishna. Members of this team have many years of practical experience in emergency, trauma and patient rehabilitation. The event began with a briefing and a recap of important points, followed by a demonstration and a simulation.
Participants’ performances were evaluated by conducting CPR and first aid techniques. The coordination, topics and delivery of the event was well received by the participants, and they provided positive feedback.
