Kuala Lumpur, 10 March 2017 – IMU’s Bukit Jalil campus took on a celebratory air as the University officially kickstarted their 25th Anniversary Celebrations at their University Day, an event held annually to commemorate its university status conferred in 1999. With an overarching theme of “Better Health, Better Society” for its 25th Anniversary celebrations, this first and most established medical and health sciences Malaysian university promises a more vibrant and exciting future, while celebrating its achievements together with its staff, students, alumni members as well as partners and industry experts. The University Day was held in the afternoon when achievements of the university in 2016 were highlighted and a comedy skit competition was held with many groups showing off their talents at this competition. This competition made the University Day a lively, fun and memorable event for all. Various awards including the Staff Achievement Awards and the Aflame Student Award were also presented at the ceremony. The Aflame Student Award was presented to honour a graduating student from any of the IMU programmes. Michele Fernandez from the pharmacy programme was the recipient of this year’s award. As the 2017 winner of the Aflame Student Award, Michele was given the opportunity to nominate a beneficiary, Dignity for Children, to receive a donation of RM5,000. Among the noted attendees were University Chancellor, YBhg Dato’ Dr Amir Abbas; President of IMU Group, YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Abu Bakar Suleiman and Vice-Chancellor of IMU Education, Prof Abdul Aziz Baba. Earlier in the day, the University Day celebrations started with an opening ceremony of an exhibition on the University’s past, present and future. This was followed by IMU’s version of Amazing Race, a challenge which saw the participation of the University’s staff and students solving a murder mystery through a technology led hunt. It served as one of the places and moments for the working and studying community of IMU to spend time together and get to know each other better, filling the university atmosphere into one full of laughter and excitement. With the official launch of 25th Anniversary Celebrations today, the University has planned a yearlong activities which includes conferences, dinner, conferment of honorary degrees and many other exciting activities.
