Each year, all around the world, International Nurses Day (IND) is celebrated on 12 May. It is a day to celebrate the irreplaceable contribution nursing makes to the world’s health and well -being as well as to commemorate the birth of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. The theme of this year’s International Nurses Day is “Nurses: A voice to lead – Health for All”. This year, the International Medical University’s (IMU) Nursing Division celebrated the Nurses’ Day on 29 May 2019 at Rumah Victory, Puchong. It was held in the presence of approximately 100 people, involving the faculty members, Nursing students and residents of the home.
It began with the opening speech by the Head of Department, Dr Lim Swee Geok, followed by the recitation of the Nurses’ Pledge. The faculty members and students then had a cake cutting ceremony to initiate the Nurses’ Day celebration. This was followed by the Nursing students entertaining all who are present with a singing performance and a piano performance by Rachel from cohort NU1/18 of the Bachelor of Nursing programme. The residents of Rumah Victory thoroughly enjoyed the performances and the audience requested for an encore. Before having a scrumptious lunch sponsored by IMU Nursing Division, the residents participated in several interactive games followed by a karaoke session. The residents really enjoyed belting out some of the oldies while others spent time talking with the nurses. The half day event concluded with a short closing ceremony whereby students distributed goodie bags to the residents. It was truly an enjoyable and meaningful Nurses Day celebration!
No matter how difficult the days may get, never forget the reason you became a nurse. |
