IMU’s Chinese Medicine Week was conducted on 3 April 2021 from 10am-2pm. The event was conducted on both Zoom and Facebook Live. In total, we had around 60 participants. This event started off with an opening ceremony. The Director of CCAM — A/Prof Ranjit De Alwis, the Head of Department of Chinese Medicine (CM) Department — Dr Hea Ai Sim and the CM Week president, Gan Yee Hung gave an opening speech.
After that, Sarah Tan, an IMU student then gave a soothing and beautiful musical performance using the traditional instrument, the Er-Hu. After this musical performance, an informative forum was conducted by IMU Chinese Medicine students from CM118. They discussed on the common misconceptions about Chinese Medicine. It was an enlightening session and good questions were raised during the Q&A session.
In the afternoon, a public talk was conducted by Sin Yen Suan. She shared about immunity from Chinese medicine’s perspective and ways to improve it. We also conducted some fun game sessions for the audience to win Grab vouchers. The winners were chosen from the Zoom and Facebook comments posted. From 31 March to 2 April 2021, there were interactive questions posted on Facebook for giveaway prizes.
After the event, we have received positive feedback from the participants. The overall rating of the event flow, speakers and quality of the sessions were good. The speakers were engaging with the audiences and gave a clearer picture of Chinese medicine to the public. In a nutshell, this year’s CM Week was successful even though it was conducted virtually. Since, IMU Chinese Medicine Programme will be celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, there will be series of public talks coming up throughout this year. We hope that this event has benefited all of those who join us online, and we look forward to your visit in our next Chinese Medicine Week. See you then!
