IMC Continues its Excellence in Nursing Education at October 2014 Convocation

315 graduates were presented with their Diploma in Nursing at the International Medical College (IMC)’s graduation ceremony on 11 October 2014 at the International Medical University (IMU)’s auditorium at its main campus in Bukit Jalil The diplomas were presented to the graduates by Chairman of IMC Board of Governors, YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Yahya Awang. The auditorium was packed to its capacity for the half-day event with faculty, invited guests and parents of the students witnessing the ceremony. The mood at the ceremony was one of enthusiasm and joy. Among the students graduating at this graduation ceremony is Flora Chan from IMC Melaka, who excelled in the Nursing Board Malaysia (NBM) Registration Examination. She said, “I am happy to be the recipient of the Best Student in the NBM Registration Examination award. Who would have thought that I will choose nursing as my career? I certainly did not, but here I am now, a registered nurse. Undergoing the training is not a bed of roses. I have experienced both good and hard times during my training here. I am fortunate that I have course mates who are always there to support me when I am in need and facing difficulties. Besides that, the dedicated academic staff and my loving family have played important roles in contributing to my success.” Another graduate who did well in the NBM Registration Examination, Syuen May Chiew, from IMC in Subang Jaya, said, “This award is the best gift and reward for the sacrifices that I have made during my training in IMC and for the time away from my family for three years. Training to be a nurse is not easy. I often face difficulties in understanding certain topics, but I always strive to find the answers especially from the academic staff who are very approachable. They have helped me tremendously and they will not stop me from asking questions when in doubt especially before our examinations. They always ensure that we, the nursing students, receive adequate teaching and practices before allowing us to perform any tasks or procedures on patients. The Clinical Instructors will always supervise the students especially when there is a complicated procedure.” Besides those who graduated with the Diploma in Nursing, this convocation also saw 5 graduates being presented with the Post Basic in Intensive Care Nursing. Among these five students is a registered nurse Daniel who is the best student for this programme. The best student was selected based on highest marks obtained in both theoretical knowledge and clinical skills as well as positive feedbacks from the clinical team and doctors in the ICU.
