11 June 2014 – A talk on sleep disorders was held at the John Bosco Lecture Theatre, IMU Clinical School in Seremban. It was organised by the IMU Alumni and IMU’s Department of Psychiatry. The talk was given by an IMU Alumnus, Dr Avinesh Singh Bhar and chaired by A/Prof Dr Philip George, IMU’s School of Medicine Clinical School Associate Dean.
Commenting on the talk, Dr Avinesh said, “I was pleasantly surprised that the response to the talk was better than what I had expected. The talk covered sleep disordered breathing and its impact on the patient’s health. The audience was introduced to the concept of sleep and health issues in the patients’ overall well-being, including the common sleep disorders.“ Dr Avinesh is a graduate of the IMU MBBS. He is a board certified physician in internal medicine, critical care, pulmonary and sleep medicine. After completing his medical studies in Malaysia, Dr Avinesh moved to New York City to start his residency training in Internal Medicine. He then pursued a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in Memphis and completed my training with another fellowship, in Sleep Medicine at Washington University in St Louis. Following the completion of this training, he took a position as a clinical faculty at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. In 2016, Dr Avinesh was selected to be one of the members of Asia 21’s Class of Young Leaders.
