16 November 2017 – IMU was awarded the SETARA-2017 with the rating of 6 stars (Outstanding) under the Mature University category by YB Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh, Minister of Higher Education, Malaysia. The only private Malaysian University in this category, IMU is one of the 8 universities that received this achievement alongside the Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) and Monash Malaysia. SETARA is a rating mechanism introduced by the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) to measure the performance of undergraduate teaching and learning in universities and university colleges in Malaysia. SETARA-2017 was announced in January 2017 and saw major re-alignment of the assessment metric by the Ministry of Higher Education. This move by the ministry is to ensure the Higher Learning Institutions (HLI) have strong fundamentals to deliver the three core functions of
