22- 25 March 2017 – Dr Abhishek Parolia, Senior Lecturer in Endodontics at the IMU‘s School of Dentistry, was awarded the Best Education Research Group (ERG) Faculty Presentation Prize at the 95tGeneral Session & Exhibition of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) in San Francisco, California, USA. He presented a poster entitled ‘Clinical Audit Training Improves Undergraduates’ Performance in Root Canal Therapy’. The co-authors of this were Jenny Yi Ming Fong, Vivian Jia Hui Tan, Jo Rynn Lee, Zoe Geng Mei Tong, Yeong Kit Foong and Allan Pau.
This is a very prestigious award as the IADR Conference is the biggest annual dental research conference in the world and is attended by world renowned leaders in dental research. There were more than 100 participants from all over the world competing for this award.
The paper presented was on an educational activity in the Bachelor of Dental Surgery curriculum and five of the co-authors are students from the DT113 cohort. They were instrumental in the data collection and analyses. Clinical audit is an important tool for quality assurance of clinical performance. Through clinical audit, gaps in clinical practice may be identified and addressed so that patient care may be improved. The School of Dentistry strives continuously to enhance students’ learning experience in order to promote evidence-based practice and quality of patient care. The abstract of this presentation will be published in a special edition of the Journal of Dental Research.
