Discrimination and inequality restrict most aspects of life’s opportunities for the needy, marginalised and disadvantaged. Often, they are often denied equal access to healthcare and education. With the intention of providing opportunities for equitable access to healthcare and education for the needy, marginalised and disadvantaged community, the IMU Foundation was established on 21 March 2011 as a non-profit organisation whose mission is to promote health and wellness in society. It was conceived by the management of IMU Education Sdn Bhd, which owns and manages the International Medical University (IMU), with the aim of enhancing and extending the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives and activities in a sustainable and structured manner.
One of the first projects under the IMU Foundation is the IMU Foundation Clinic, which consists of a medical and dental clinic. The medical clinic started operations on 12 March 2019 following successful registration with Ministry of Health.
The medical clinic runs medical and pharmacy services to the homeless and urban poor under the Kechara umbrella at the Kechara Soup Kitchen premises. The IMU Foundation Dental Clinic have also started its operations. The services by the IMU Foundation Clinic are provided by IMU staff and students.
