IMU Alumnus, Lam Jun Rong started his degree studies in pharmaceutical chemistry at IMU in 2011 and graduated with his degree in 2014. He is currently working as a Chromatography Service Engineer at PerkinElmer Malaysia, a company which specialises in providing high-end scientific instrument such as Inductive Couple Plasma (ICP) and Gas Chromatography (GC). “I am currently handling after-sales service and maintenance of the scientific instruments which involves technical and analytical methodology support as well as providing reliable and committed service towards customers from the private and government sectors”, said Jun Rong, who is the eldest son of the family and has two siblings. Immediately after his graduation, Jun Rong contacted the company where he had his previous industrial attachment for job placement while working as a research assistant under Dr Thirumurugan Rathinasabapathy for synthesis and development of medicinal products. Commenting on the IMU pharmaceutical chemistry programme, Jun Rong said, “I am most grateful for the industrial attachment that was conducted while studying for my degree where we can actually see what needs to be done in a real working environment. I am lucky to be placed at my current company, PerkinElmer, which exposed me to various scientific equipments used in pharmaceutical industries such as ICP and GC, and trained on samples preparation and analysis.” “The pharmaceutical chemistry programme was tightly fitted with enriching lectures and most importantly there were hands-on practical where laboratory experience is second to none. It is a fantastic course with great lecturers and friends who encourage me to cooperate and communicate professionally.”
