Kaeshaelya Thiruchelvam, an IMU lecturer from the Pharmacy Practice Department, School of Pharmacy won the ‘Best Oral Presentation’ Award at the 2nd IMU Cares Humanitarian Mission Conference. The title of her presentation was ‘Care of the Elderly: Practical Solutions to the Obvious Challenges’, which highlighted central concerns in elderly homes and practical solutions in line with a framework that centred on quality of life.
Kaeshaelya’s presentation was based on key issues and challenges that are being addressed by the IMU Cares Elderly Group Working Committee, with the aim of improving the services and activities being conducted in elderly homes that have been adopted by the IMU.
The 2nd IMU Cares Humanitarian Mission Conference was a one-day conference organised in collaboration with Mercy™ Malaysia and held on 13 July 2017 at the IMU’s campus in Bukit Jalil. The conference was themed Serving the Community: A Shared Responsibility, and aimed to share the experience of humanitarians in organising, managing and executing humanitarian missions. The conference also aimed to promote and enhance the spirit of volunteerism and encourage others to work for a better and more peaceful world. This conference was graced by the presence of renowned speakers like Dato’ Dr Ahmad Faizal Perdaus, President, Mercy™ Malaysia, and Dr S Madhusudan, co-founder of Teddy Mobile Clinic. Whilst the conference provided a platform to many renowned humanitarians who made their ways to international platforms to provide their services, the conference also provided an opportunity for oral and poster presentations that showcased community-based projects that have been conducted around Malaysia.
