19 April 2013 – 412 students and staff of IMU attended this year’s IMU Ball at HGH Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur. Themed Primavera de mi Vida, Spring Ball 2013, the IMU Ball is an annual event which initially started out as a graduation ball and has transformed over the years into an event that not only brings IMU students from different batches together to celebrate graduating from IMU, but also to revel at the essence of being a student at IMU. It is now an event made merrier by students from all batches and is the time where the triumph of students whom have made it through all their years in IMU is applauded and friendships and bonds fostered over the years are honoured and reminisced.
Before the start of the event, guests were treated to a delightful range of cupcakes and a chance to take photos in the photo booth. A variety of props were prepared and made available for fellow IMU students to select and take memorable pictures with them in an enclosed photo booth.
Second year medical student, Mr Russell Wong and psychology student, Ms Nadira Nazir, were the emcees for the evening and they lit up the room with their humour and bright smiles throughout the evening. After the opening speech made by the President of the Organising Committee, Ms Estee Tow, the event went into full swing with an interesting line-up of performances and exciting programmes.
Guests were kept well entertained while they were being served with a luscious meal. Lucky draw sessions were alternated in between performances. A very interesting segment that evening was the catwalk and dancing for the Top 5 Prom King and Queen Nominees which got the crowd roaring and kept them entertained during the event. Prom King and Queen Nominees were paired up and grooved to random tunes as part of the programme.
The highlight of the night is Primavera de mi Vida Fashion Show, put together by the Ball Committee’s very own Director of Events, Mr Ho Jon Fhat and fellow IMU students who were the models for the night. The fashion show portrayed very beautiful spring-wear and gorgeous women’s apparel that captured the attention of all the attendees. This further enlightened the essence of Spring on the night.
The moment all guests were waiting for was the coronation of IMU Ball 2013 Prom King and Prom Queen as well as the Best Dressed Awards for both male and female.
The event ended with the opening of the dance floor. The Prom King and Prom Queen danced to ballroom music with their respective partners, which attracted their fellow IMU students to join them.
The event was a success and this could not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the organising committee who spent a tremendous amount of time and effort into making it a success. Credits also go to the staff of IMU and the Student Representative Council of 2012/13 who made huge contributions to the event.
