7 March 2015 – More than 162 students from various Pharmacy and Health Sciences programmes attended the International Medical University (IMU) Health Sciences Career Day this year. With 16 booths at the Atrium (14 companies, IMU Postgraduate Programme and a joint booth by IMU Partnership with Industry and IMU Cares), this annual event organised by IMU had provided a golden opportunity for students to network with companies. IMU Postgraduate Programme was for students who were interested to further their studies to the postgraduate level. The Career Day started with a Welcome Address by Prof Ong Kok Hai, Chairperson of the Partnership with Industry (PWI) Committee. This was followed by a briefing and an introduction to what it means to be an industrial partner with IMU. This gave an opportunity for PWI committee members to network and establish possible industrial partnership with the industry. Students who attended the IMU Health Sciences Career Day were from all semesters with the majority from Semester 8 (62 students) and 41 from Semester 4. Students enquired about job opportunities from company representatives and had an insight on what is awaiting them in the market. Talking to their potential employers, students were clearer of what the companies were looking for in interns or employees. This will better prepare them for their job interviews in the future. The companies, on the other hand, never failed to enhance their organisations’ image when they introduced themselves to the students. 93% found that the event was a good publicity for their company. They created good impressions among the job seekers with their enthusiasm and friendliness. The companies were overwhelmed with number of students participating and visiting their booths. They were positive about the bright future of IMU students joining the workforce.
Dialogue Session with Companies was a special highlight that was not present in previous years. 5 companies – Pfizer, Natural Healings, Allianz Berhad, Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur, and IMU’s Postgraudate Programme conducted talks and dialogues to enable students to have a more in-depth conversation with them. Some companies introduced their working environment and shared testimonials by their current employees.
IMU Health Sciences Career Day this year was indeed an interactive platform for companies and students to network and for IMU Partnership with Industry Committee to establish industrial connections with the companies.
