28 November – 30 November 2014 – Four students from the International Medical University (IMU) clichéd the top 8 rankings in their respective divsions at the recent Circuit 1 of IPT 1Malaysia Squash Circuit 2014/15. Soo Jia Ying emerged champion in Women Division 2, with Boon Jing at 6th position and Lim Jia Yi at 8th position. In Men Division 2, Ali Redha Azizan also came in 8th. Together with another seven IMU students, these members of the IMU Squash Club participated in this event at University Malaya. The event attracted participants from 22 universities.
Jia Ying said, “This is my first time representing IMU in a squash tournament. I really did not expect myself to win this! I am grateful for having a bunch of teammates who have supported and guided me throughout this tournament. After this, I will be competing in the Women Division 1 of Circuit 2 and I hope to gain even more experiences from that. Winning this division is just a start, and I hope to push myself to a higher level in the future!”
IMU Squash Club is currently funded by Yayasan Rakyat 1Malaysia (YR1M) and will be receiving coaching by Sharon Wee, former Malaysia No. 2, under the IPT Squash Programme.
