IMU University proudly accepted the prestigious Champion title at the 2024 Employers’ Choice of University Award ceremony held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel Kuala Lumpur on 2 May 2024.
Represented by IMU’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof Ian Martin Symonds, the university was recognised for its excellence in Pharmacy by Talentbank. The event also saw the presence of Prof Ong Chin Eng, Dean of the School of Pharmacy, and Mr Mohammad Ridzuan Bin Repin, Director, Partnerships & Engagement.
The Talentbank National Graduate Employability Index (Talentbank’s GE Index) evaluates graduates’ employability nationwide, serving as a valuable resource for students and parents in choosing the right academic path. This initiative aims to enhance graduate employability, offering insights into university selection and career readiness.
Speaking after the award ceremony, Prof Ong Chin Eng expressed IMU’s pride in being recognised by the Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical industries for producing highly skilled graduates.
The Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) programme, initiated in 2004, aims to cultivate top-tier Pharmacy professionals capable of adapting to evolving practice environments. IMU’s programme employs innovative technology and an outcome-based curriculum to empower students, ensuring they are competent and ready for practice in hospital, community pharmacy and pharmaceutical companies.
Similarly, the Pharmaceutical Chemistry programme, launched in 2008, provides a holistic education in pharmaceutical sciences and applied chemistry, supplemented by knowledge of data analytics, pharmaceutical engineering, and biotechnology. Graduates find employment locally and abroad in pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, cosmetics and personal care, and chemical industries.
Top Among Malaysia's Private Universities
Another award which reflects IMU’s commitment to excellence in pharmacy education, the IMU is ranked 151-200 this year in the QS ranking by subject (Pharmacy & Pharmacology), with the School of Pharmacy ranking top among Malaysia’s private universities and fourth nationwide in the ranking.
The 2024 QS World University Rankings by Subject cover 55 individual subjects across five areas. This year, 1,559 institutions were evaluated, with 64 making their debut. To be included, institutions must exceed minimum scores for academic and employer reputation indicators, meet the five-year paper publication threshold in the discipline, and offer relevant undergraduate or postgraduate programmes.
IMU’s remarkable progress in the Pharmacy & Pharmacology subject rankings is evident, starting from 301-350 in 2021 and advancing to 201-250 in both 2022 and 2023. These achievements reflect IMU’s commitment to prioritising academic and employer reputation, as well as promoting research within the discipline.
The Talentbank Employers’ Choice of University Award and the QS ranking by subject in Pharmacy and Pharmacology underscore IMU’s dedication to equipping students with industry-relevant skills, ensuring their readiness for the dynamic pharmacy and pharmaceutical industries.
