IMU’s Director of the Centre for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Prof Michael Thomas Haneline, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Chiropractic Health Care (CHC) Section of the American Public Health Association (APHA) in recognition of his significant contributions to the Section’s activities and improvement. The award recipient is determined by a majority vote of the CHC Section Chair, Section Chair-elect, Awards Chair, and all other members of the Awards Committee.
Prof Haneline was unable to attend the award ceremony on 12 November 2018 at APHA’s 2018 Annual Meeting and Expo from 10-14 November in San Diego, California due to his commitments as Director of the Centre for Complementary and Alternative Medicine at IMU in Malaysia.
Commenting on receiving the award, Prof Haneline said, “It was a great honour for me to receive this award as only one person receives this award each year. Receiving an award for doing something you strongly believe in and love doing is an added bonus.”
Prof Haneline practiced chiropractic for nearly 30 years and has been involved in education and research since the early 1980’s. He conducted spinal biomechanics research with Chung Ha Suh, PhD, taught continuing education courses for the Motion Palpation Institute, and was the Associate Director of the Spine Research Institute of San Diego. Prof Haneline was a part of the Department of Research at Palmer College of Chiropractic West where he also taught courses in evidence-based practice. Immediately before joining IMU, he was the Dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies at the University of Western States in Portland, Oregon, USA. Prof Haneline has authored numerous articles which have appeared in peer-reviewed and professional journals and is the author/editor of two textbooks entitled “Evidence-Based Chiropractic Practice” and “An Introduction to Public Health in Chiropractic”, both by Jones and Bartlett Publishers. He is the Immediate Past-Chair of the Chiropractic Health Care Section of the American Public Health Association. Awards received include:
