5 August 2017 – The School of Pharmacy, International Medical University (IMU), in collaboration with Institut Kimia Malaysia (IKM), organised a PharmChem Science Career Day at the University’s campus in Bukit Jalil. The objective of the Career Day is to provide a platform for graduating pharmacy, chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry students to seek job opportunities and to enquire on internship, provisional registered pharmacist training, and career prospects. The Career Day saw participation from IMU Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Chemistry final year graduating students, as well as students from other local universities. Dean of the School of Pharmacy, A/Prof Zulkefeli Mat Jusoh, officiated the event attended by students, faculty members as well as participating company representatives and gave the welcoming address. Many of these companies had various job vacancies offered to the graduating students and many students had on-the-spot interviews. Students also took this opportunity to visit the exhibition booths to get the latest information regarding internship opportunities and career prospects. The event also held two talk series: two parallel sessions in the morning and another two in the afternoon. These talk series saw three IMU alumni sharing their knowledge and work experiences that they have had in a private hospital, pharmacy enforcement and pharmaceutical industry in a forum. Representatives from pharmaceutical industries also spoke on career opportunities in various departments within organisation and on how to adapt into the work places and meet employer expectations in parallel sessions.
The student audiences were very delighted to have gained insights into various aspects of work life post-graduation and the diverse job scope as well as matters regarding career paths and ladders. We believe that this event would provide opportunities for all students to develop the mindset and behaviour necessary to learn work-related skills, perseverance, and positive attitude towards work as a part of long-term career success.
