19 September 2016 – The International Medical University (IMU) is pleased to announce the appointment of A/Prof Mohd Zulkefeli as Dean, School of Pharmacy. A/Prof Mohd Zulkefeli, PhD is also an Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department at IMU since September 2016. Before joining the IMU, he was a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and had served in various administrative positions including Deputy Dean of Academic, Quality and Research (2007 to 2008) and Deputy Dean of Research and Industrial Linkages (2011 to 2012). He was also a Director of Centre of Excellence for Natural Products Discovery Research (2012 until 2014). He was among the first group of Malaysians who graduated with the BPharmSc, from Hiroshima University, Japan in 1998 with a Scholarship of Public Service Department and later completed his postgraduate studies, MPharmSc (By Research) in 2002, and PhD in 2005, at Hiroshima University, Japan under a Scholarship of MONBUSHO (Japanese Government). Dr Zulkefeli spent two years as a post-doctoral researcher with fellowship under the Japan Society for The Promotion of Science (JSPS) in Tokyo University of Science (TUS), Japan from 2008 until 2010, and a post-doctoral researcher under NanoMalaysia-IBM Research Collaboration Program, at IBM Research-Almaden, San Jose, California, USA from 2014 until 2015. He received his Full-registered Pharmacist status in 2013. He also obtained several national research grants such as MAKNA Cancer Research Award (2005), Biotech Incentive MOSTI (2006), and FRGS (2014). His research interests include Supramolecular Chemistry (Design and Synthesis of Functionalities Supramolecules by Self-Assembly method in Aqueous Solution) and Medicinal Chemistry (Design and Synthesis of bioactive Molecules) and also Pharmaceutical Chemistry Education. His research output has been translated into a few high impact publications, such as articles in PNAS, JACS and Inorganic Chemistry (ACS journals), a patent and also a chapter in a research book. Dr Zulkefeli also actively serve as panel member for accreditation of pharmaceutical science related programmes under Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
