IMU School of Dentistry and the IMU Centre for Lifelong Learning (ICL) has been organising a four days course entitled “Demystifying Molar Endodontics” at IMU’s campus in Bukit Jalil twice a year for the past three years. This course includes lectures, case-based discussions and hands-on training on a systematic approach in making clinical diagnosis and implementing the evidence-based treatment protocol in the endodontic management of molar teeth with minimal to moderate difficulty.
This couse is delivered in two parts: | |
---|---|
Part 1 | Includes three days of lectures, demonstrations and hands-on workshops on extracted teeth highlighting the benefits of illumination/magnification using operating microscopes, ultrasonics, advanced rotary canal preparation, newer irrigation devices, thermoplasticised obturation techniques/systems, latest bulkfil materials to achieve predictable coronal seal and restoration of broken down teeth using post and core. |
Part 2 | Includes four mentoring sessions, case-based learning, reflection, and discussion. |
In 2020, due to Covid – 19 restrictions, we had to modify the delivery of the course. The lectures were delivered using an online platform while the three days hands-on training was conducted face to face at IMU’s Bukit Jalil campus. Over the years, this course has attracted participants working as dentists in government clinics, private clinics, and dental practitioners from overseas like Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, and Indonesia. This course has always received very satisfactory feedback about the facilitators, IMU lab infrastructure and support staff. Dr Abhishek Parolia is the chairperson who has been running this course for the past three years with his team members, which includes Dr Shekhar Bhatia and Prof Seow Liang Lin.

Workshop is of excellent quality. |
Excellent course for practitioners who are looking to sharpen their skills on molar endodontics. It provided sufficient hands-on training with 2 specialists, who both gave great clinical tips. It had given me the opportunity to practice with the microscope, which was invaluable in solidifying the basic knowledge of root canal anatomy and mechanical preparation of root canals. Well-thought structure and delivery of content. Basics in endodontics were well-covered by both lecturers. I appreciate how the course stressed on the importance evidence based endodontics. |
The speakers, materials given, and method of conducting were good. |
