14 June 2014 – A final year dentistry student at International Medical University (IMU), Wong Choon Yong, shines at the national level clinical case presentation competition by winning the first prize at the 3M ESPE Fixed Prosthodontics Case Presentation Competition 2013-2014. The competition was held at the 3M Innovation Centre in Shah Alam. Choon Yong presented a clinical case of a failed bridge which he has restored back the aesthetics and function for the patient; providing root canal therapy, post and all-ceramic bridge. The case was supervised by Prof Seow Liang Lin. Choon Yong also had to submit a report of 1,500 words for the case. With a fluent and immaculate presentation, he charmed the judges and audience, which led him to receive the Best Presenter Award in the competition. He walked away with an IPad, certificate and a Challenge Trophy sponsored by Malaysian Association for Prosthodontics. The 3M ESPE Fixed Prosthodontics Case Presentation Competition is an annual competition held at national level and is open to all final year dental students of public and private dental schools in Malaysia. First round is held at university level to select one best student to represent each university. Nine public and private dental schools in Malaysia participated in the competition this year. The judges were specialists (prosthodontists) from the Ministry of Health and commented that the standard of care provided by all presenters was very good and has improved tremendously over the years. Choon Yong and Prof Seow were thrilled with this achievement and attribute the success to support rendered by the management and School of Dentistry of IMU, which has state of the art facilities to support the treatment. Besides this, six other dental students of IMU (Khoo Shun Wei, Melissa Lee, Goh Kai Hoe, Tan Joanne, Ooi Jing Wei and Wong Jhiew Zhan) also won a quiz (3M Customer Innovation Centre Challenge) that was organised as part of the event. Heartiest congratulations to all of them!
