2 – 6 June 2014 – International Medical University’s Dean, School of Health Sciences, Prof Khor Geok Lin, was invited to be one of the panelists of two sessions at the Micronutrient Forum Global Conference at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The two sessions were on “Creating and supporting leadership: Vital in ensuring cohesive and sustainable scale-up” and “Pulling out all the stops’: Enabling a world without micronutrient deficiencies”. Prof Khor was only invited panelist from Malaysia at this Conference. 
“I am honoured to have been invited to be one of the panelists at this conference alongside some of the leading nutrition, food security, global health and sustainable agriculture experts and practitioners from all over the world. The topics of discussion were related to my research interests which include Nutrition and Micronutrients in Maternal and Child Health,”said Prof Khor.
The 3rd Micronutrient Forum Global Conference in Addis Ababa focused on the convergence of interests and shared responsibility among stakeholders from various sectors including nutrition, health, agriculture, social protection, food security, the private sector, and their spheres of influence. The agenda was driven by a commitment to approach this aspect of world hunger differently from in the past, by flattening the silos and better linking research to policy to practice. Prof Khor obtained her first degree in McGill University, Montreal and later pursued her MSc and PhD in Human Nutrition and Community Nutrition respectively. Her research interests are in Public Health Nutrition, Community Nutrition and Micronutrients in Maternal and Child Health and she has received grants to work in these areas of her research. Prof Khor has published extensively in both international and regional journals and contributed to book chapters in nutrition. She has also received numerous academic awards including the Takemi Fellowship and Fulbright Scholarship, Harvard School of Public Health; Association of Commonwealth Universities Development Fellowship, Monash University, Clayton, Australia; Association of Southeast Asian Institutions for Higher Learning Fellowship, Auckland University of Technology, Auckland, New Zealand; and the Asia Pacific Clinical Nutrition Society (APCNS) Award. Prof Khor is currently the Dean, School of Health Sciences which delivers programmes such as Nursing, Chiropractic, Chinese Medicine, Dietetics with Nutrition, Nutrition, Psychology, Medical Biotechnology and Biomedical Science. She is also an Emeritus Professor at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
