The celebrations began with a brief introduction to World Pharmacists Day by Prof Yeoh, followed by Andrew Tan who spoke on the changing role of pharmacists from the traditional focus on products to patients in the ever changing healthcare scenario in Malaysia. The event was then followed by a skit entitled “The Pharmacists’ Journey in IMU” by a group of young and talented Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm), Semester 3 students, led by Angeline Yeoh. They focused on the pharmacy students’ main objectives of choosing the pharmacy course, re-emphasising to all future pharmacists about their crucial role in serving the community, the importance of continuous professional development to ensure quality pharmaceutical care. IMU_4486 Yip Cha Ming, a Semester 3 BPharm student, followed with a slide presentation on the history of pharmacy followed by an “Overview of Pharmacy in Malaysia”. He briefly described the beginning and development of the pharmacy service in Malaysia from before Malaysia obtained her independence in 1957 to the present time, 2014. All pharmacy students in the auditorium then stood up and retook “the Pledge of Professionalism” led by Tee Ai Ven, a Semester 5 BPharm student.
