IMU School of Dentistry and the IMU Centre for Lifelong Learning (ICL) has been organising a four-day course entitled “Demystifying Molar Endodontics” at IMU’s campus in Bukit Jalil twice a year for the past three years. This course includes lectures, case based discussions and hands-on training on a systematic approach in making clinical diagnosis and implementing the evidence-based treatment protocol in the endodontic management of molar teeth with minimal to moderate difficulty.
This course is delivered in two parts: | |
---|---|
First part | Includes three days of lectures, demonstrations and hands-on workshops on extracted teeth highlighting the benefits of illumination/magnification using operating microscopes, ultrasonics, advanced rotary canal preparation, newer irrigation devices, thermoplasticised obturation techniques/systems, latest bulkfil materials to achieve predictable coronal seal and restoration of broken down teeth using post and core. |
Second part | Includes four mentoring sessions, case-based learning, reflection, and discussion. |
In 2020, due to Covid-19, we had modified the delivery of the course. The lectures were delivered online followed by three days of hands-on training which was conducted face to face in IMU Bukit Jalil campus.
Over the years, this course has attracted participants working as dentists in government clinics, private clinics, and dental practitioners from overseas like Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, and Indonesia. This course has always received very satisfactory feedback about the facilitators, IMU lab infrastructure and support staff. Dr Abhishek Parolia, Associate Dean, Postgraduate, Continuing Education and Research is the Chairperson who has been running this course for past four years with his team members which include Prof Seow Liang Lin, Dean, School of Dentistry, Dr Shekhar Bhatia, and Dr Preena Sidhu.
The year 2021 has been a challenge for the entire world but we managed to deliver this course very well. The Demystifying Molar Endodontics Revisited 2021 course was delivered in two phases, lectures using an online platform on 4-6 June and three full days of demonstrations and hands-on training including interactive sessions on 26-28 November 2021. There were 18 participants including general dental practitioners and dentists working in Ministry of Health, Malaysia. These participants were given the access to recording of all lectures conducted online just before the hands-on training for revision and learning. The participants showed a great interest in learning and gave very positive feedback.
