Enhancing the Wellbeing of Elderly with Health Screening

24 Jul 2024

On 20 April 2024, IMU University staff and students conducted a vital community outreach event aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of elderly residents at Rumah Victory Elderly Home. This initiative, led by A/Prof Dr Chye Soi Moi, focused on proactive health screening, health, and dietary education to promote healthier lifestyles and prevent common age-related health issues.

Health screenings, including blood glucose and blood pressure measurements, were performed to facilitate early detection and prevention of health conditions such as diabetes mellitus and hypertension. These measures are crucial in ensuring that older individuals can sustain a high quality of life by addressing health concerns promptly and effectively.

Small group education sessions that covered healthy eating, chronic disease prevention, and understanding blood test results offer numerous benefits for the elderly population. These sessions provide valuable information, support, and empowerment to help seniors maintain their health, prevent chronic diseases, and live independently for longer.

By investing in these educational opportunities, healthcare providers and communities can significantly improve the overall wellbeing and quality of life for the elderly.
