From 22 to 24 November 2024, the IMU Advancement & Alumni Office joined forces with Epic Homes for a meaningful and impactful home-building initiative. Held over three days, this collaboration brought together Advancement & Alumni Office, IMU alumni together with a group of volunteers, united by a common purpose: to build homes for underserved communities and foster lasting positive change.
Building More Than Homes
Epic Homes, known for its dedication to providing sustainable housing solutions for marginalised communities, served as the perfect partner for this initiative. The project focused on constructing a safe and dignified home for a family in need, aligning with IMU’s commitment to community engagement and social responsibility.
Throughout the three-day build, IMU participants worked tirelessly under the guidance of Epic Homes’ experienced facilitators. The project allowed volunteers to engage in hands-on construction work, including assembling frames, painting, roofing, and installing finishing touches. Many participants discovered new skills and strengths while learning the importance of teamwork, resilience, and community spirit.
A Unified Effort
The IMU team, which included alumni and representatives from Advancement & Alumni Office embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and determination. The mix of generations showcased the true spirit of the IMU community, with shared goals of making a difference and uplifting others.
Participants shared heartfelt moments during the experience, from overcoming physical challenges to celebrating milestones as the house took shape. Each nail hammered and every wall raised was a testament to the collective effort, empathy, and dedication of the volunteers.

The handover ceremony on the final day was an emotional culmination of hard work and unity. The family’s joy upon receiving the keys to their new home served as a powerful reminder of the impact of community-driven initiatives. Volunteers left the site with a renewed sense of purpose, knowing their efforts had provided a life-changing opportunity for a deserving family.
