I chose to join the IMU University because of its outstanding reputation in health sciences and its strong emphasis on practical learning. Completing IMU’s Foundation in Science programme gave me a solid foundation in science, which made it easier to transition into my degree studies in nutrition.
My time at IMU has been incredibly fulfilling. One of my best memories is the time spent with my course mates working on assignments and practical reports. These collaborative moments not only made studying enjoyable but also helped build lasting friendships. Throughout my studies, I received support from my lecturers, who were always ready to offer guidance on my projects, research, and practicum. Their encouragement and mentorship were invaluable, helping me grow both academically and professionally.
Internships
During my studies, I had the valuable opportunity to complete internships with the Ministry of Health (KKM) and Top Glove. My placements at community health clinics under the Ministry of Health, in the area of Maternal and Child Health, were both challenging and rewarding. I was able to apply what I had learned at university to real-life cases.
During your time at Top Glove, I gained invaluable insights into the corporate aspects of nutrition, including managing food service operations, ensuring compliance with food safety standards, and spearheading initiatives in public nutrition education. This experience allowed me to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical applications in an industrial setting, highlighting the role of nutrition in corporate responsibility and workplace wellness programmes.
Additionally, I had the opportunity to attend the Nutrition Society of Malaysia (NSM) conference, which allowed me to engage with professionals in the nutrition field and present my own research.
This experience not only expand my understanding of current research trends but also helped me refine my skills in presenting scientific work to a professional audience.
What I Am Doing Now?
Currently, I am working as a nutritionist, applying the knowledge and skills I gained at IMU to help individuals lead healthier lives. This role brings me great satisfaction, and I am excited to continue making a positive impact on the community.
Looking to the future, I aim to further my education and specialise in healthcare management. I believe that continuous learning is crucial in this field, and I hope to improve dietary practices and health outcomes in general public.
Advice to Future Students
To future students, my advice is to embrace every opportunity that IMU offers. Engage with your lecturers, collaborate with your peers, and take full advantage of internships. These experiences will enrich your education and help you build a strong network for your future career.
In conclusion, my journey through IMU has been transformative, shaping my career path in nutrition and equipping me with the skills needed to succeed. I encourage all prospective students to immerse themselves fully in the IMU experience and make the most of their time here!
