On 22 June 2025, the Nursing Division of the School of Health Sciences participated in the IMU University Open Day by hosting an engaging and hands-on activity titled “Essential Nursing Skills.” Held at the Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre (CSSC), the event offered visitors a unique opportunity to experience the vital skills that form the foundation of nursing practice. More importantly, it served to raise public awareness about the dynamic and evolving role of nurses in modern healthcare.
Throughout the day, visitors were guided through live demonstrations of essential clinical procedures, including adult and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), cervical collar and arm sling application, as well as infant swaddling techniques. These demonstrations allowed participants to gain a first-hand understanding of the precision, care, and decision-making required in nursing practice. The activity highlighted how technical competency in nursing goes hand in hand with compassion and critical thinking, both of which are essential for ensuring patient safety and quality care.
As healthcare becomes increasingly community-driven and technologically advanced, the role of nurses has expanded beyond traditional clinical boundaries. Nurses today play a vital part in public health initiatives, digital health adoption, and leading patient education efforts in both urban and rural communities.
At IMU University, nursing students are not only trained to provide safe and effective bedside care but are also equipped with leadership skills, digital literacy, and a strong sense of social responsibility.
Through exposure to community engagement projects, health promotion campaigns, and simulated digital platforms, students are prepared to lead change, advocate for underserved populations, and adapt to technological advancements in healthcare.
The Open Day offered a glimpse into how nursing education at IMU is shaping future leaders who are responsive to societal needs and committed to transforming care beyond the hospital walls.

Visitors were particularly impressed by the professionalism and enthusiasm shown by our nursing students. Notably, Lee Jing Yang (BNU 1/21), although still a student, demonstrated the depth of his training and passion by confidently leading CPR demonstrations. As a trained and experienced first aid and life support instructor, he provided detailed explanations and actively engaged with the public. His performance reflected both competence and calmness under pressure.
Alongside his peers, the student team responded thoughtfully to questions and shared their personal experiences of pursuing a nursing career at IMU University. Their collective presence offered a compelling insight into the future of the nursing workforce, built on the values of compassion, integrity, and resilience.

This meaningful initiative was made possible through the leadership and guidance of Dr.Lim Swee Geok, Head of the Nursing Division. The event also benefitted greatly from the support and presence of dedicated faculty members, Ms Yee Bit Lian, Ms Nurazlina Binti Md Noor, and Ms Azaria Binti A Rahaman, who ensured smooth facilitation throughout the day.
Gratitude is also extended to the nursing students who served as demonstrators and ambassadors during the event: Lee Jing Yang (NU 1/21), Wong May Ann (NU 1/22), Wong Wei Yi (NU 1/22), Denise Quek Le Yun (NU 1/23), Annita Lim Quan Mei (NU 1/23), Nabila Jashim (NU 1/23) and Pung Hui Jing (NU124).
