The 11th Annual IMU Science Discovery Challenge (SDC) Grand Finale lit up the virtual stage on 20 September 2025. celebrating over a decade of nurturing young scientific minds. What began as a modest local competition has evolved into a prestigious national and international science event, drawing thousands of passionate students from across Malaysia and beyond.
This year’s Science Challenge was conducted entirely online, once again fulfilling its mission of promoting science awareness and sparking curiosity among youth. The journey began with a fast-paced preliminary online quiz – 50 questions in 60 minutes – that saw nearly 5,000 participants compete for a place in the finals. The top 300 students in both school and pre-university categories advanced to the Grand Finale.

The energy soared during the final round as the top 30 contestants from each category demonstrated their sharp scientific knowledge and problem-solving abilities. Five winners emerged in each category, alongside recipients of the Best Biology and Best Chemistry Awards, and several consolation prizes.
Chairperson of the event, Prof Chin Beek Yoke, shared an inspiring message during her closing speech, “The Science Discovery Challenge has always been more than just a competition. It’s about celebrating the interconnected world of mathematics and science around us. All of you represent the exciting future of scientific innovation in Malaysia.”
As the 11th IMU Science Discovery Challenge concludes, it stands as a beacon of inspiration — empowering young minds to explore, innovate, and shape a brighter, science-driven future.
