A vibrant Traditional Costume Fashion Show where participants proudly showcased attire from various ethnic groups, each outfit telling a story of culture, meaning, and heritage.

IMU University was filled with colour, music, and cultural pride on 16 October 2025, as the Festival Rakyat (FESRA): Exploring the Nation’s Art and Culture brought together staff and students in a vibrant celebration of Malaysia’s multicultural heritage. The event was organised by the MPU team under the Department of Social Sciences, School of Psychology and Social Sciences (SOPSS)

The festival began with a warm welcome address by Prof Haslee Sharil Lim Bin Abdullah, Dean of SOPSS, who emphasised the importance of understanding and appreciating Malaysia’s diverse traditions as a means to foster unity and respect within the IMU community. His words set an inspiring tone for the day’s celebration.

The event featured a series of captivating traditional dance and singing performances, showcasing Malaysia’s rich tapestry of cultural expression. Participants also competed in the English and Malay storytelling competitions, bringing local folklore and wisdom to life through engaging narratives.

One of the main highlights was the Traditional Costume Fashion Show, where participants proudly modelled attire representing various ethnic groups, sharing the unique meanings and heritage behind each piece. Adding to the day’s excitement were a variety of traditional games booths, which ran throughout the day, giving participants a chance to relive classic pastimes.

Meanwhile, food and craft vendors filled the venue with local flavours and handmade treasures, offering a delightful cultural experience for everyone in attendance.

The festival concluded with a closing speech by the event chairperson, Sharina Abdullah, who expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all performers, participants, vendors, and volunteers.

The day ended on a celebratory note with a prize-giving ceremony to recognise the winners of the storytelling competitions and fashion show.

FESRA 2025 successfully reflected the spirit of togetherness, creativity, and pride in Malaysia’s cultural identity. The Chairperson extended her appreciation to the organising committee and to everyone who contributed to the event’s success, reaffirming IMU’s commitment to fostering cultural awareness, inclusivity, and community engagement within its campus.
