Superbugs are bacteria that have become resistant to multiple antibiotics, making infections increasingly difficult to treat.
Any type of bacteria can evolve into a superbug, as these microscopic organisms are remarkably adaptable—mutating, sharing resistance genes, and even transferring them across different bacterial species. This ability allows antibiotic resistance to spread rapidly in nature, posing a serious global health threat.
Prof Chin Beek Yoke from IMU University explains how this happens and why it matters.
