The Foundation in Science programme at IMU University recently organised and hosted a campus discovery experience for students and teachers from SMJK (C) Chung Hwa, Kota Bharu, bringing science and healthcare education to life through hands-on exploration and expert engagement.

Throughout the day, visiting students participated in interactive laboratory demonstrations across three fields:

• Bioveterinary Science,
• Food Science Innovation, and
• Chemistry

These hands-on sessions allowed students to

• Step into the role of university learners,
• Conduct experiments,
• Observe scientific processes, and
• Engage directly with cutting-edge laboratory equipment

Students also explored informative booths representing various undergraduate degree programmes, including

• Medicine
• Dental
• Psychology
• Digital Health and
• Pharmacy

These booths provided comprehensive insights into diverse career pathways and the breadth of opportunities available within the healthcare and science sectors at IMU University.

The combination of practical lab work and informative discussions created a day filled with curiosity, exploration, and discovery.

What made the visit particularly impactful was the direct access students had to IMU’s subject experts.

Rather than simply observing, students engaged in meaningful dialogue with lecturers who

• Explained complex scientific concepts in accessible ways, and
• Shared insights into real-world applications of the sciences.

The visiting teachers expressed strong appreciation for the quality and interactivity of the programme.

They were particularly impressed by the hands-on laboratory sessions and the opportunity for students to learn directly from subject matter experts—experiences that are difficult to replicate in a secondary school environment.

The success of the visit was the result of close collaboration between the Centre of Pre-University and undergraduate faculties.

Reflecting on the experience, Mr Jashan and Ms Nor Diana, the Foundation in Science lecturers who organised the visit shared: “We have a strong sense of fulfilment in organising this visit, as it allowed us to create meaningful exposure and share knowledge with high school students. It was also a valuable opportunity to build connections with fellow undergraduate lecturers and collaborate across faculties. Overall, the experience reinforced the impact of working together to deliver engaging and purposeful learning experiences.”

Ms Nor Diana added “Organising the school visit programme was really rewarding and enjoyable. It was nice to connect with the students, see their excitement, and better understand what they’re actually looking for in a university.”
