IPSA HEARTs in Action 3.0: Sharing Love, Care, and Joy

On 18 April 2026, members of the IMU University Pharmacy Students’ Association (IPSA) carried out HEARTs in Action 3.0, the third iteration of their community outreach initiative, at Sunshine Disability Welfare Homes, located in Taman Connaught, Cheras.

This meaningful visit underscored IPSA’s dedication to nurturing:

  • empathy
  • kindness
  • a sense of social responsibility among aspiring healthcare professionals

The initiative was led by IPSA President, Mok Jia Qi and carried out under the supervision of Dr Suresh Shanmugham, IPSA advisor.

Expressing Creativity Through Art

The visit kicked off with IPSA members joining the children in a colouring and drawing activity.

This allowed the children to freely express their creativity through art, creating colourful pictures that sparked their imagination.

During the activity, members chatted with the children to create a comfortable and friendly atmosphere.

These interactions helped members build rapport and connect with the children, setting a positive tone for the rest of the visit.

Bonding Through Games and Laughter

To further strengthen the bond, IPSA members and the children played interactive games such as board games. These light-hearted activities brought laughter to the children, creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere that allowed them to feel seen, heard and valued.

These moments highlighted the importance of social interaction and emotional well-being for a child’s development.

Donations to Support Daily Needs

In addition to the interactive activities, IPSA also prepared and donated essential supplies to support the daily needs of the children at Sunshine Disability Welfare Homes. These contributions included:

  • Food staples such as rice and noodles;
  • Assorted snacks and biscuits; and
  • Beverages such as packet drinks and instant drinks like Milo.

Every item was carefully chosen to support daily meal preparation for the children and ease the operational responsibilities of the caregivers.

IPSA also prepared and donated essential supplies

A Lasting Impact Beyond the Visit

Throughout the visit, IPSA members connected with the children through simple moments of

  • Conversation
  • Laughter
  • Shared experiences

These meaningful moments left a lasting impact on both the members and the children, strengthening the values of

  • Kindness
  • Patience
  • Empathy

Similarly to previous iterations, HEARTs in Action 3.0 continued to demonstrate how pharmacy students can step beyond textbooks and clinical training to serve the community with compassion.

Initiatives like this not only bring joy, comfort and support to those in need but also help shape future healthcare professionals who are compassionate and socially responsible.
