IMU University Day was held just recently on 22 February. This special day is about remembrance and celebration, because it marks the day when the then International Medical College was awarded university status. The university has now been in existence for over 20 years and the achievements of the University are considerable over this time. It is with great anticipation and excitement that IMU now moves into the third decade of its existence. This year, the University Day was celebrated on Friday, 22 February at the Auditorium, Bukit Jalil Campus. The event was attended by the President— Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Abu Bakar Suleiman, Pro Chancellor—YBhg Dato’ Dr Amir Abbas, Chairman of the Board of Governors—Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Yahya Awang , Member of the Board of Governors—Dato’ Dr Gan Ee Kiang and Dato’ Dr Yeoh Poh Hong, IMU Provost—Dr Mei Ling Young and Members of Senate. This year’s celebration featured speeches and presentations from distinguished members of the faculty and honoured visitors. Click here to view Tan Sri’s keynote speech >> One of them was the 15th Ottawa conference with the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE) that IMU has successfully cohosted. This was the first time this conference has been hosted in Asia. It was also one of the biggest and most successful of the Ottawa Conference series ever held. IMU has over the last year seen the establishment of three academic centres in IMU which are the Institute for Research, Development and Innovation (IRDI), IMU Centre for Education (ICE) and IMU Centre for Life Long Learning (ICL). These centres serve important functions on campus and in the community and are a key component in centre of learning excellence in ASIA. From a corporate perspective, IMU has become part of a larger corporate entity, IHH Healthcare Bhd, which was listed in July 2012 on the KLSE. This listing was important nationally and internationally and has strengthened the financial and corporate standing of IMU. IMU Achievements Awards were given in seven categories which include Research and Publications, Community services, Individual Development, Teaching Excellence (TEA), Business Process Improvement, E-Learning and Excellence in Demonstrating IMU Core Values. These achievements and successes have been the result of the hard work of many people from various areas within IMU. The positive changes to IMU as a place of higher educational learning, and also as a corporate entity are immense and act to strengthen the image and viability of the University in the coming decade and beyond.
