IMU Alumnus Excels at Texas State University with a CGPA of 4.0

Immanuel Tan Zhen Miin made Malaysia proud when he scored and maintained a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.00 in all semesters throughout his Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree studies at Texas State University in the United States. He is an alumnus of International Medical University, Malaysia, graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Psychology. In addition, Immanuel was ranked in the top 1% of the Master of Public Administration (MPA) programme and was awarded the most outstanding graduate student in the Department of Political Science at Texas State University.

 

He was awarded the Frank Rich Scholarship for his exceptional academic performance and the Medal of Hope by the Leadership Institute of Texas State University for his exemplary leadership commitment at the university. Beyond that, Immanuel was initiated into various honor societies, which include the Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Alpha Alpha (The Global Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration), and the Phi Sigma Alpha (National Political Science Honor Society) for his strong academic performance.

 

Because of his strong commitment towards internationalizing the university, Immanuel was invited by the university to speak at various international events to address the needs of international students and the importance to respect diversity and inclusion. In addition, he was also invited to share his experience at panel discussions during several professional development workshops for university faculty and employees.

 

Immanuel has also presented a research paper at the International Research Conference for Graduate Students at Texas State University on “Mandatory Foreign Language Education among American Students: A Review of the Literature” where he addressed the importance for Americans to learn more than just English language.

 

Apart from his accomplishments at Texas State University, Immanuel represented Texas State University at the 2019 Texas City Management Association (TCMA) annual conference, where he gained knowledge and skills critical for leadership roles in the government sector from city managers across Texas.

 

In addition, Immanuel was also invited to attend the World Youth Forum 2018 in Egypt under the auspicious of the President of Egypt, where he shared knowledge and experience on the roles of young people in today’s society. Immanuel was also sponsored by the Leadership Institute of Texas State University to attend the United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA) Leadership Summit 2018 where he joined other participants in advocating for a strong US-UN partnership at the US Capitol in Washington DC.

 

Immanuel, who is currently the Senior Executive for Business Development at Gamuda Land, encourages every youth in Malaysia to work towards their goals each day, and not to be complacent at where they are. He emphasizes that no one should ever start to devalue themselves because of their social status, financial capabilities or academic abilities and encourages all young people to see themselves as a valuable asset that is significantly useful and needed to the society. Success is for everyone and everyone deserves a fair and equal opportunity.
