The annual Chinese Medicine Field Trip, held from 4-5 April 2025, offered an enriching opportunity for students to expand their learning beyond the traditional classroom setting. A total of 23 IMU students and 7 lecturers embarked on this immersive two-day journey, engaging with real-world environments that brought their academic studies to life. The group visited herbal medicine manufacturing plants and farms, gaining firsthand insight into the cultivation, processing, and application of herbal remedies.
This hands-on experience enriched students’ understanding, turning classroom theories into practical knowledge and deepening their appreciation for traditional Chinese Medicine.
Day 1: Hai-O Manufacturing Plant and Hai-O Retail Store
Day 1 of the field trip kicked off with a visit to the Hai-O Manufacturing Plant, the first traditional healthcare company to be listed on Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad since 1996. Students were introduced to the intricate processes involved in manufacturing and packaging herbal products. During the visit, they learned the importance of hygiene, discipline, and attention to detail which are the crucial elements when handling herbal medicinal items.
Following the plant visit, students had the opportunity to explore the first-ever Hai-O retail store. Here, they learned about the rich history and development of the Hai-O Company. As a gesture of hospitality, students received goody bags containing herbal products and enjoyed specially prepared herbal eggs.

Day 2: Bentong Farm
Day 2 took the participants to the scenic and eco-friendly Bentong Farm, where they had the chance to interact closely with various animals such as peacocks, goats, cows, and more. They also gained exposure to different types of herbal plants and learned about animal behavior in a farm setting, enriching their understanding of natural ecosystems and their link to Chinese medicine.
