Expanding Horizons: IMU MBA in Healthcare Management Students Complete Two Inspiring International Immersion Programmes

30 Jun 2025

At IMU University, we believe in transforming classroom learning into real-world experiences that empower future healthcare leaders. In line with this commitment, students of the MBA in Healthcare Management (MBAHM) programme from the School of Business and Technology (SOBT) had the unique opportunity to participate in a fully sponsored overseas immersion programme.

With the initial two immersive programmes held in India and Thailand, these global learning journeys provided our students with valuable insights into international healthcare systems, helped strengthen their leadership capabilities, and allowed them to immerse themselves in diverse cultural settings.

Kerala, India: A Blend of Tradition, Innovation and Leadership

Our first overseas immersion took students to the scenic state of Kerala, India, where they engaged in a dynamic leadership workshop at the Santhigiri Institute of Management. During this enriching study tour, students explored the fundamentals of Ayurvedic medicine and visited prominent institutions such as New Care, DentCare Dental Labs Pvt. Ltd.—Asia’s largest dental laboratory—and Rajagiri Hospital, known for its forward-thinking healthcare services.

Cultural exploration was equally integral to the experience. Students enjoyed boating and kayaking at Bhoothathankettu, visited the Ayurvedic Research Centre, and admired the stunning landscapes of Munnar—often called “The Kashmir of South India.” The journey concluded with unforgettable visits to Varkala Beach and the iconic JadayuPara.

Commenting on her experience in this programme, MBAHM student Grace Lee said, “From the very beginning, it wasn’t just about learning – it was about connecting, sharing, and growing alongside some truly inspiring people. The discussions, the exchange of ideas, and the collaboration were on another level. I’ve walked away with so much more than just knowledge.”

“It’s the friendships and perspectives that made this experience truly enriching. This whole experience has left me with a deep appreciation for learning through cultural exchange. It’s been eye-opening, humbling, and something I’ll never forget.”

Elaborating further on this, Grace said, “From the moment we arrived, I knew this wasn’t just an academic trip — it was a transformative experience. I learned not only from the institutions we visited, but also from the people, the culture, and the inspiring exchange with our professors and peers. Engaging in leadership discussions, exploring Ayurvedic practices, and witnessing healthcare innovations in India broadened my perspective far beyond the classroom. What impacted me most were the genuine connections, cultural exchanges, and shared reflections that deepened my understanding of both healthcare and humanity.”

“As a student of the IMU MBA in Healthcare Management participating in this immersion programme, I’ve come to realise that it isn’t just about earning a degree — it’s about embracing a mission: to become a leader who dares to think differently, understands the complexities of global healthcare systems, and leads with both head and heart. Through this global immersion, I didn’t just gain knowledge — I gained perspective, empathy, and real-world insights that no classroom alone could offer. I’ll graduate not just with a qualification, but with stories that shaped me, skills that empowered me, and a global mindset that truly sets me apart.”

Another student, Aneera Ganason agrees with Grace and added, “The leadership workshop was remarkable, offering fresh perspectives on growth and development. The food was another highlight—getting to taste Sadya, Kerala’s traditional vegetarian feast, was a delightful experience and most of all yummy! Most importantly, throughout this journey, we gained new relationships and formed lasting bonds. Traveling together, we’ve truly come to rely on each other, and we sincerely hope to maintain these wonderful connections long into the future.”.

Bangkok, Thailand: A Strategic View into Medical and Healthcare Leadership

The second international immersion was held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 11 to 14 December 2024, as part of the broader MBAHM 2nd Immersion and Hospital Management Leadership Programme, organised in collaboration with Commellow Project Co., Ltd., Thailand. This programme was carefully designed to reinforce IMU’s commitment to cultivating globally competent healthcare professionals.

Through pre-immersion preparation, intensive engagement during the immersion, and post-immersion reflection, students bridged theoretical knowledge with practical exposure in Thailand’s advanced healthcare system. Collaborations with top-tier institutions such as the Ministry of Public Health, Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Chulabhorn Royal Academy, and Chulabhorn Hospital enabled participants to explore topics like the Thailand Medical Hub Strategy, pandemic management, the Hospital Act B.E. 2541, and wellness integration.

Participants also had the opportunity to meet healthcare leaders and policymakers, gaining insights into hospital management, digital healthcare transformation, and strategic leadership.

Cultural exploration included visits to Museum Siam and the Vichit Chaopraya Festival, offering a glimpse into Thailand’s rich cultural heritage.

A MBAHM student, Dr Syahir Isa found the immersion programe to be an eye-opening journey. He said, “This trip wasn’t just about learning—it was about seeing firsthand how strategy, innovation, and leadership shape world-class healthcare. Exploring Bangkok’s vibrant streets, rich culture, and amazing food made the experience even more unforgettable. Bangkok reminded me of what’s possible when passion meets purpose—a perfect reflection to inspire bold steps and meaningful change in 2025”

He further added, “This is the kind of real-world exposure that makes IMU’s MBA in Healthcare Management truly stand out. It doesn’t just teach you, it transforms how you think, lead, and serve in healthcare.”

Transformational Learning, Global Perspective

These two international immersion programmes are a testament to IMU’s holistic approach to education—where academic excellence, leadership development, and global exposure intersect. As our MBAHM students return with renewed insight and inspiration, they carry with them the experience and vision to lead positive change in healthcare systems across the world.

With the success of these two immersion programmes, the School is committed to continuing such initiatives to provide students with enriching and unforgettable experiences throughout their journey in the Master’s programme at IMU.
