Alongside clinical placements at respective hospitals, the students also made good use of the opportunity to explore the city, which portraits a unique blend of ultra-modern life and deep-rooted tradition. They found themselves standing at the Bund, looking across the river at the towering skyscrapers in Lujiazui, the Shanghai Tower, Oriental Pearl Tower, and all the other towering skyscrapers’ glittering lights at night made it feel like a scene from a sci-fi movie. Besides immersing in the glamorous city skylines, students also explored the narrow alleys of the Old City, tasted delicious xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) near Yuyuan Garden, and strolled through the peaceful, classical Chinese gardens, which was like stepping into a painting. The French Concession area was another highlight, where the shady tree-lined streets, cozy cafés, and mix of European-style architecture made it one of the favorite places to unwind.
